Team 'Cure TBA'

We did it! Team 'Cure TBA' finished the long trek on foot from Logan to Park City in 33 hours 20 minutes and 9 seconds. We definitely didn't break any records for speed but had an awesome time! I was the only girl in our van so it made for an interesting time! If anything, we definitely raised some serious awareness (if you've ever seen Arrested Development you'll understand).

Class of 2010

This past weekend Kevin graduated from The University of Utah with his degree in film and media studies; it was a great day filled with family, inspiring words, and last but not least partying. I am so proud of Kevin for this great accomplishment! His professor told him that he is the most talented film student he has seen while teaching at the U ( and he's been teaching for 30 years). Kevin has been able to complete some great short films while at the U. He just finished up his latest 'They Put a Man on Earth' it's nothing short of amazing (and i'm not just saying that because i'm his wife).

This is such an exciting time in our lives...I can't wait to find what the future holds. We will hopefully be moving to the great state of California this fall to follow our dreams!

i have come to realize that some things in life are easier said than done...sad that it only took 24 years for me to figure out. back in december i committed myself to run in the wasatch back relay or better known as ragnar. ragnar is a 24 hour relay run from logan to park city, you have a team of 12 and everyone runs 3 different legs of the race which are anywhere from 3-8 miles. the ragnar website describes this event as a 188 mile-party with 12 best friends. sounds fun, right? well i've been training since january and my body already hates me. i am running 3-4 times a week and trying to get in a couple days of cardio. for one, i thought that this would help with my weight issue...however i feel as though i've only gained weight. on top of that i feel like when i walk my knees just want to give out. i have been taking hot baths at night to soothe my achy joints - i still feel like a grandma. on the bright side only 4 more months of this.

ps- suggestions are welcome on how to cure my achy knees/body.

The Holidays Have Come and Gone

Well Michelle's working out at the gym and I'm being lazy and watching the Jazz game so she put me in charge of posting our holiday pics and posting the most recent news. All in all we had a great holiday season, we went up to Logan and spent lots of time with our great families. At Michelle's family's house we played Wii and Rock Band (Michelle got a blister during one furious Rock Band drumming session) and had a great time playing card games. At my parents we mostly played with all the kiddies that were around and very excited for Christmas and watched Christmas movies.

I spoiled my Christmas early and bought a Canon EOS 7D to be my new video and photo camera and enjoyed playing with it during the season (used to take pics below). For Michelle's Christmas and Birthday gift (I know I know, I wasn't supposed to combine) I used some money we got from Grandma Wyler after she passed away and got us a 7 night cruise to Mexico with Royal Caribbean (thanks to Mom and Dad for springing for the airfare). It will be our first cruise and we are very excited to say the least! We set sail on January 30th! Michelle also got a sewing machine which I can only assume she'll be using to sew us some Snuggies. Thanks to everyone for all the nice gifts and a great Christmas!

On New Year's our good friends Kate and PJ invited us up to their cabin to ring in 2010, we played Wii and ate junk food and had to count down to the new year three times because PJ's cute toddler Ethan really enjoyed all the yelling and celebrating. :)

Now that the holiday's are over I'm back substitute teaching and Michelle is back to the daily grind at the office. School starts for me next week and it should be a good semester, I'll be finishing my new short film "They Put a Man on the Earth" and taking lots of good film classes. Only 33 more credits til I'm done! (Which is more than a little scary). Other than that we're looking forward to our big vacation and trying to survive the cold cold winter as well as the Jazz's disappointing season.

It's that time of year...finally! The boys are back in action and I just love the Jazz, it's been a weird obsession of mine since I was very young. I had dreams of plaing in the WNBA and marrying Byron Russell...neither of which happened.

If you aren't already...you need to follow the Utah Jazz on Twitter. Kevin and I have scored free tickets to both preseason games just for following them. We went to a team scimmage (we are hard core) earlier this week and from the sounds of it they are going to be doing a lot of Twitter give aways this season.

I am in need of a new jersey, i'm debating between Korver and Williams. My obsession with Kirilenko has fizzled so it's time to fold up that jersey and it would be an absolute embarassment to wear my Boozer t-shirt...hmmm. Decisions decisions.

The excitement at the Lacy household has been pretty non-existent lately hence the lack of blog posts. Kevin is super busy with school and work. I am now taking a yoga and sewing class which are both so fun and it works out great with Kevin's night classes.

Last week Kevin had the opportunity to show two of his latest films at an independent film night here in SLC. We wined and dined with the finest. It was $30 per person to get in and since he was showing two films we both got in for free! We definitely haven't had that fancy of a meal in a long time. Everyone loved Kevin's movies and it was a great night.

Also last weekend I had my first apple/pumpkin picking experience. My mom, myself, Dane, and Camden braved the chilly weather and headed out to Paradise. For anyone who lives in Cache Valley I recommend this as a fun fall activity.

As promised, here is the link to watch the movies that Kevin made this summer while in school. He just got accepted into a year long program (only 14 students were accepted) within the film department at the U so I thought it would be fitting to congratulate him and also show off some of his work.

Here is a brief description of his first movie 'Of Guns and Innocents': When newly married Ben moves into a rough neighborhood with his young wife, his values and ideals are challenged and tested as they collide head on with reality. Starring Rachelle Anderson, Josh Cameron and Lara Watkins. Written, Produced and Directed by Kevin Mark Lacy.

The second movie is a documentary on Christian Harrison, a friend from our previous ward who is an active gay member of the LDS church.

This post is a tribute to my wonderful hubby, yesterday Kev turned the big 25...he was actually a little depressed about the milestone he had just reached. He kept saying 'ugh, now i'm 1/3 way dead' so I think this birthday was a little bittersweet for him. As you get older the less exciting they become. Anyway, we had a great dinner with his family at the Cheesecake Factory (thanks for dinner guys!)and after we went back to our place and he got to debut the 2 films he was busy working on this summer (those will be discussed later in their own post). Little does he know that tonight i'm throwing him a surprise party, and you might think it's risky for me to disclose this for everyone to read but I can guarantee that Kevin isn't sneaking a peek at our blog...it's just not his thing! So there will be more pictures to come!

Last night Kevin and I went to our first Real Salt Lake game. I have been wanting to go to a game for awhile just not spend the money. Last weekend we were watching the news and they came up with a code for half price tickets...so we jumped on it. The weather was perfect, our seats were awesome, and they won! We had a great time and plan on going to more games!

I finally have some things to blog about...so here I am back again.

First, I need to take a minute to brag about my husband. Last semester was his first at the U, he took 17 credits and still continued to substitute and he managed 4.0! He is such a smarty pants and i'm just so proud of him. He is already back in summer school, luckily only 8 credits...not near as crazy!

On another note (yes, still bragging), his band played at the Maverick Big Ass Show this past weekend. It was such a neat experience for them and they were awesome! I couldn't find the battery charger for the camera, so of course I didn't take any pictures...but I am going to steal some from a friend...so those will be posted soon!

Lastly, my cousin got married a couple weeks ago and we are so happy for them! It was a beautiful day and it couldn't have gone any better. Here are a few pictures from their big day.

Stay for the Summer (Kevin's band) needs YOUR help! They are competing with a bunch of local bands to play at the Maverick Big Ass show at the end of May. So it's very simple and takes just a second go to the X96 website and vote! You can only vote once per computer (or so it seems), so use all your phones, computers, etc.

Aside from the winning band the remaining 7 will get to play on the live and local stage...so even though they aren't in first they still have a great shot at playing.

How can this man not be absolutely frustrated!? If you watched last nights Jazz game you will understand where I am coming from. He scores 35 points and has 9 assists and his team still comes up short. The Jazz have been so close the last 2 games, maybe that's why i'm so upset and taking the time to blog about it. I just want them to prove to the most stacked team in the league that they can hang with them...but my faith in the Jazz is beginning to dwindle. The headline in the SL Tribune this morning is "Halfway Done"...enough said!

So, Kevin and I were lucky enough to go to the Fall Out Boy concert last night. After arriving at Salt-Air (gross run-down building that looks as though it belongs in Vegas) we realized that we were surrounded with 13 year old girls who should have been at home watching Hannah Montana. But besides our old age, we had a great time. I have always loved Fall Out Boy, I think it was my senior year of high school when I was first introduced to them and I had never seen them live so I was really excited (I think more so than Kevin). We didn't take any pictures because we are lazy. I need to get better at taking pictures, it would really help to make this blog less boring!

So, after booking our trip to NYC...we soon realized that we needed to plan what we are going to do and book a hotel. We decided to be adventureous and book our hotel on Priceline because it can save you tons of money. You have to be a little crazy to book on Priceline though because you don't know what hotel you are booking until after you have paid and made a reservation. Basically you set the criteria for what kind of hotel/location you want and if it accepts your offer then it's all yours, no ands ifs or buts about it. We ended up with The Night hotel literally in Times Square. It's a modern day representation of Gotham, so it's very dark and sleek. Definitely different than anything we have ever stayed in before...well I can't wait to go and hope to come home to blog about our many great adventures!

So, last night Kevin and I booked ourselves a nice little vacay to NYC...it was definitely spur of the moment, but that's how we do things! Monday night we went and got our taxes done and were pleasantly surprised with our refund, we weren't expecting near what we got...so we are going to pay car/renters insurance with some (boring) and treat ourselves to a nice little weekend getaway (exciting) to the city! I can't put into words how excited I am, I have always wanted to travel to New York just haven't gotten the chance until now. Kevin has been there once, so he is in charge of keeping me safe and showing me a good time...NYC here we come!

So we are finally all settled into our new place...I promised I would post pictures, but that will have to wait. If I am going to show the world our apartment I want everything in place, and of course it never is. So maybe later this week. As of late I am so bad at taking pictures!

Anyway, we had a very enjoyable weekend. Friday night Kev and I decided to go out for a nice romantic evening. We started off at the Gateway, and originally planned to go to Tucanos and when we got there the wait was ridiculous and Kevin decided he didn't want to deal with his old boss...so instead we had a real classy meal at Costa Vida. We then made our to the arcade Kevin's favorite...then hit up Forever 21 my favorite! After our Gateway excursion we went and saw Slumdog Millionaire...seriously such a good movie! We have been wanting to see it since it came out but have just been so busy. If you haven't seen you need to. It's a very sad, happy, inspirational, and all around good movie. Go see it. Saturday we headed up to Logan to see the fam and for our cute little nephew's (Jayden) baby blessing. Good times were had by all.

I hope the title didn't get your hopes up to much...but the big exciting awesome news is that we finally found an apartment. We had to make a quick decision last night because when we arrived at "the apartment" there were others trying to stake their claim. Big decisions are hard to make quickly, like Kevin said last night "I feel like i'm in a game show and there are 3 doors and behind door number one is a super awesome prize (i.e. a million dollars) and you have to pick a door but don't know what's behind doors number two and three (which could be something even more awesome like five million dollars)" We had a total of 5 appointments set up last night in hopes of finding the right place. The apartment we ended up with was number 2 of the 5, so we didn't get to see the last 3 but I still feel like it was a smart decision. Sundancing and Other Stuff

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd hop on here and say something so I don't feel guilty about not keeping in touch with everyone. I'm currently subbing for an Animal Companionship class (and don't have much to do except maybe some homework that I feel good about putting off. Anywaysies, yesterday I went up to the Sundance film festival in Park City, I am taking Sundance 1900 at the U which is a class that has you go to Sundance movies and then write a paper about it, which allows me to get credit and see movies and not feel guilty about the money spent on going to 6-7 sundance films. So Michelle and I kicked off Sundance by seeing the very interesting "Mary and Max", a claymation feature film about pen pals with various mental disorders/alcoholism/overeating problems etc. I know! It was crazy but also good in a not very Disney type way. Lol. But we both had a good time and enjoyed hearing the director talk about the film afterwards in a Q&A session with the audience. Then yesterday I had the day off school and work so I used it as an opportunity to see 4 documentaries back to back to back to back. My favorite was called Big River Man (although I did watch Dirt! The Movie, with Pierce Brosnan {james bond} which was sort of exciting), the amazing true story of Martin Strel, a 50 something, overweight alcoholic with a gambling problem... who also happens to be a marathon swimmer. The film follows him as he swims the Amazon river in 66 consecutive days with his son and ex-Wal-Mart employee guide and slowly descends into madness as he makes his way across nearly the entire South American continent. To my surprise Martin was at the screening and received a long standing ovation when the director announced his presence after the film. The other films I watched were The Reckoning and Wounded Knee which were both very excellent. Michelle and I are continuing are search for a new pad and actually have a place to check out before my night film class. I have to say as far as film school goes that I didn't expect to so quickly be immersed in the study of film. I don't think I have seen so many movies in so short a time in my life. In class last week we watched Citizen Kane and Ingmar Bergman's INSANE art film "The Seventh Seal" as well as the movies Michelle and I watch often just for kicks. So ya, thats pretty much my life now, watching, editing (my own short) and studying movies. Hopefully this will all add up to me being able to someday make some very good movies, BUT who knows. Anyway, I better finish this because Obama is about to be sworn in (thanks in large part to me throwing my support - and thereby my constituents support - behind him. Your welcome Mr. Obama, your very welcome). Oh and I think I'll repost this on our blog so I get Michelle and Mom brownie points all at the same time. Genius. -KL

For Rent...

Tonight we went apartment hunting for about an hour and a half...and didn't find much. Our lease is up at the Gateway the middle of February and we just can't seem to justify our crazy expensive rent not to mention it will go up as soon as our lease is fulfilled. We love our place here, it's been a great first place...maybe too great considering we are more than likely going to have to downgrade. Since it is Sunday we didn't get to see the inside of the places we were looking at so that always makes it harder, and like the saying goes you can't judge a book by it's cover. There was one house (turned into 4 apts.) that we got to look at and it was an old house right by the U (which is perfect since Kevin starts school tomorrow)the outside was cool so we figured it wouldn't hurt to go look. We got inside and immediately feared for my life though Kevin was somehow seemed sure their weren't homeless serial killers squatting at the top of the rickety stairs. Turns out it was this tiny one bedroom with a bathroom and kitchen that could fit into our bathroom now. Not to mention pink tile seemingly everywhere. Sigh. So if anyone knows any decent inexpensive places relatively close to the U or at least close to transportation let us know! xoxo -Gossip Chelle

The Holidays

It's official...I am terrible at blogging. Whenever I have free time I just want to look at someone elses blog. The holidays were great, just wish they could have lasted longer! Thanks again to our parents for everything, we love you! We were in Logan with our families for Christmas then for New Years we headed to Las Vegas to get out of this freezer. We are finally back in the blogging world...I know, it's been awhile. We have found ourselves to be quite busy lately. I am just getting over an awful fever/cold/sore throat which put a little damper on the holidays but still we had a great time.

First things first, Anna (Kevin's sister) had her baby last Monday, Jayden Seth Whisler...so cute! I was too sick to hold him, but here he is the cute little babe!

We were able to share Thanksgiving with both of our family's, we had a great time. My parents decided now that the kids are gone they needed something to fill-in for us so they bought a Wii to all of our surprise. So we had a great time figuring out how out of shape we are with Wii Fit.

We then got lucky enough to get ninth row tickets to the Jazz game on Friday, and as you all know we love the Jazz! They were by far the best seats I have ever sat in, we were right next to the Jazz bench and it was so fun to watch Jerry Sloan freak out. We also had a great time checking out Masha Kirilenko, what a woman...lol.

Last but not least Kevin wrapped up shooting for his short film (The Suckerpunch Proposal) that I mentioned awhile ago. He has been working non-stop on it, i'm so proud of him. It's going to be great! Thanks to all of our friends/family who helped out in the making of this. He is really looking forward to starting school in January.

It's been awhile since my last post, only because I don't feel like I have anything exciting to blog about other than the Jazz, and that can get boring. But then something happened...I witnessed a fight last night. Kevin and I were driving by the homeless shelther around 9pm when I turned to look out the window and I saw a woman punch a man in the face. CRAZY! Then they were kicking and fighting like nothing I had ever seen before. I'm sure they were both missing a few screws. Kevin thought that by honking they would be distracted and stop fighting, I thought that by honking they would get distracted and shoot us. We aren't in Logan anymore.

Welcome to Idaho, home of Neo-Nazis and Napoleon Dynamite and Neo Nazis who use NapoleonTM Brand Dynamite to perpetrate violent hate crimes. That's right, I said it. Michelle had to do some Human Resourcing so I tagged along, literally, she tied me to the back of the car and I bounced along the freeway behind her car. That's not a joke. So I hung out at the hotel until she was finished at the office. Mostly I watched Cash Cab and tried to find a cheap lighting kit online. As for Cash Cab, why is it that people don't take longer to answer the questions thereby ensuring that they will arrive at their destination with at least SOME cash and without three strikes (which cause them to leave the cab without winning ANY money). Anyway, so last night we went to a sit-down Pizza Hut which brought back pleasant memories of the 3rd Grade Book It! program. We went and swung by the brand new Rexburg Temple which is really pretty and then picked up the Leatherheads DVD which is right next to my favorite hair salon "Hair Are We" and went back to the "AmericInn", I'm not making up either of those names by the way. Also, I think I found all the hardcore McCain - Palin supporters, apparently they inhabit the desolate straits and brown wind swept valleys of Idaho's most rural communities. Oops got to run, Michelle forgot her Super-Human Resourcing bag. I'm out.

Scalper's Delight

Pick and Roll. Michelle and I were in the mood for an old fashioned hardwood classic tonight so while we were out and about in the Mazda Tres we swung by the EnSo Arena to see if any of the shady characters that haunt the outskirts of that basketball shrine could offer us discounted tickets. They could. Michelle rolled her window down and I blocked traffic as we offered up the measly thirteen dollars I had in my wallet for dos Jazz tix. What did we get for our hard earned 13? Two tickets to the stairway express. Top row, our heads bumping the ceiling. The Jazz were without the man, the myth, the legend no. 8 Deron "The Human Torch" Williams but still managed to pull out a W thanks to the brilliant play of C. Booze. Just as Michelle began to doubt him at the end of the game, he saved the day, throwing up a prayer that miracously went in. The Denver Thuggets then played a brutal foul game down the stretch but we wouldn't be outdone. After the game ChelleyBean and I got free Chalupas thanks to the Jazzes 5 blocks! Pick and roll baby! We are trying to decide whether or not to go the Jazz game tomorrow, and now that we live so close we were thinking that we could just buy super cheap seats from a scalper...but then someone piped in and said it was illegal? Hmmm...

Body Worlds

My cute family came down this weekend to take Kevin and I too see the Body Worlds 3 exhibit. I can't even begin to describe what we saw. It was an opportunity to really see the complexities of the human body. Some may think this is creepy and gross but it's a great opportunity to learn more about ourselves and it makes you think twice about how you are treating your body. Go see it, we highly urge everyone who has the opportunity to do so.

I honestly hate Mondays, yes that is contradictory to my headline. It's funny because I remember as a kid my dad would always start to get grouchy Sunday night because he wasn't looking forward to Monday. I used to think that was so silly, now I find myself doing the same thing. Maybe it's because i'm stuck in the routine of 8-5 Monday through Friday, or maybe it's all mental, I really don't know. But the last thing I want is for my life to start to become a routine, and it slowly is. Part of my oh so normal routine includes watching Gossip Girl and The Hills every Monday night. It's like a reward to myself for making it through another Monday. Pathetic? Yes.

Kevin and I went to Disneyworld on our honeymoon. Neither of us had ever been before, so it was fun to experience it together. We felt like kids again, it was great. If you have been there than you know that Disneyworld is Disneyland on steroids! It's huge, like 40 square miles or something. We arrived in Orlando on a Sunday and didn't leave the grounds of Disneyworld until Friday when we were headed home. We stayed at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside resort; A Southern New Orleans Bayou theme. We were there in between hurricanes, it only rained once so we were very lucky. It was a great honeymoon and we someday hope to go back.

Tonight Kevin and I are going to the Jazz game. It's their first pre-season home game against the Suns, so it should be a good match up. We were lucky enough to get tickets on the 15th row (yes the lower bowl) thanks to a co-worker of mine. We normally sit on the 15th row of the upper bowl...so it will be a nice treat. The Jazz opened up great against the Lakers on Tuesday so we are hoping for another big win. Go Jazz!

So I have been wanting a blog for a long-time now, honestly I don't know why I haven't set one up yet. I think the biggest reason would be I have no clue what i'm doing. Anyway, here we are... finally blogging away.
Most people reading this probably know what's going on in our lives, but if not here is a quick update. Kev and I were married August 22nd. It's so great being married to your best friend. We are living in SLC and loving the big city. I work as an Human Resource Representative for Administrative Services Group. Kevin starts school at the University of Utah in January and is looking forward to putting his creative juices to use. He might hate me for all this but I must brag, he is in the process of working on his short film, here is a sneak preview:

"The Sucker Punch Proposal" is a lighthearted comedic romp about a commitment-phobic slacker named Doug Wiley who wakes up one morning to find a full page marriage proposal from him to his girlfriend printed in the newspaper. Trouble is, it wasn't he who placed the proposal. Comedic hi jinx follow!
